NC Community Tree Webinar: Successful Tree Fruit Culture - What's Required?

Apr 04, 2024

3:00 pm to 4:00 pm (EST)

Presenter: Dr. Mike Parker, Associate Professor and Fruit/ Nut Tree Extension Specialist

Attempting to grow fruit trees in the landscape is a very common, albeit typically unsuccessful,  event. Many homeowners buy trees in the spring at major retailers or outside local grocery stores based upon bright and glossy tree tags.  However once that tree is planted, in many cases, very little management , including pruning, occurs in the process of waiting 3-4 years before the trees begin to bear fruit - if they survive.  This session will address some of the major issues in tree fruit culture to successfully manage fruit trees for fruit production, while also having aesthetic value.  Fruit trees do require specialized management, training and pruning, and I believe there is a growing niche, and market, for  the arborist who understands these differences.
